Zhiqun Li
Economics PhD Student
Welcome! I am a 2025 Fall Economic PhD Student at Ohio State University. I’m interested in how intimate relationships are formed, formalized, dissolved, and re-formed under preferences, information, institutions, and household investments?
About Me
My academic background spans biology, business, computer science, and economics. I participated in the Biology Olympiad track during high school, pursued a double major in business and computer science for my undergraduate studies, completed a master's degree in business and economics, and specialized in microeconomics for my doctorate. Drawing on my background in biology and economics, I am deeply interested in human behavioral decision-making, as I believe that much of human behavior is rooted in rationality. Recently, I have been using evolutionary game theory to model the co-evolution of mating behaviors, household institutions, and social norms. I look forward to sharing my research findings with you.

Zhiqun Li. The Impact of Windfall on Marital Happiness: A Theoretical and Empirical Analysis
Key Findings: This study theoretically analyzes how windfalls affect marital happiness based on reference-dependent framework and empirically validates the theoretical results. The main finding is that windfalls can significantly increase marital happiness for married individuals through consumption, leisure time, perception of current life, and prospects for future life. The increase in marital happiness exhibits a positive spillover effect on the mental health of family members.

Zhiqun Li. Online and Offline Retailing: Mutual Benefit or Prisoner’s Dilemma?
Key Findings: This study investigates retailer’s channel decision under dual consumer heterogeneity. The first retailer to adopt an online channel gains a relative advantage in market share and pricing, but intensified competition reduces its absolute profit below the offline benchmark. This advantage encourages imitation, creating a prisoner’s dilemma in which dual-channel competition eliminates offline market power and drives both retailers’ profits to zero. Although this outcome harms retailers, it substantially increases consumer surplus and overall social welfare.
